The fifth and sixth grade choir recently traveled to Azle, Texas, to perform in the ACSI Music Contest held at Azle Christian School. The Liberty choir received a rating of “I” – meaning superior for all three pieces and from all three judges.
“I am so proud of each choir member,” said Shara Collins, Lower School choir director. “We worked very hard, and it definitely paid off.”
Thirty-nine Liberty students performed three pieces that met the standards set out by ACSI. The second piece was difficult, changing time signatures with difficult soprano and alto parts. However, the third piece was even more difficult. This piece, called “Skye Boat Song,” had sections of four-part singing – Soprano I, Soprano II, Alto I, Alto II. Some of the intervals were seconds, meaning the intervals had one note right on top of another, which was very difficult.
When the Liberty students finished this piece, the judges sat back in amazement and said, “Wow.”
Liberty families will have an opportunity to see this piece performed at Grandparent’s Day and also at the Spring Concert.
Collins said, “Please brag on your children, and make sure to attend our concert in the spring.”
