Liberty’s Tennis Team Rises to the Occasion and Takes Third

Liberty’s varsity tennis team traveled to Abilene on March 29 to play in a pre-district tournament. The boys and girls team placed third overall.

Boys’ Doubles

Placing First:
Seniors Josh Fischer and Tyler Parent defeated Midland Christian, 7-5, 6-1
Seniors Josh Fischer and Tyler Parent defeated Lubbock Trinity, 6-3, 6-4 

Placing Fourth:
Senior Matt Stanley and sophomore Chris Wells defeated Midland Christian, 2-6, 6-3, (12-10)
Senior Matt Stanley and sophomore Chris Wells lost to Lubbock Trinity, 4-6, 3-6
Senior Matt Stanley and sophomore Chris Wells lost to Midland Christian, 3-6, 4-6 

Boys’ Singles 

Placing Fifth:
Freshman Louis Vargas lost to Lubbock Trinity, 6-4, 5-7, (8-10)
Freshman Louis Vargas defeated sophomore Casey Vander Stoep (LCS), 7-5, 6-2 

Placing Sixth:
Sophomore Casey Vander Stoep lost to Lubbock Trinity, 0-6, 4-6
Sophomore Casey Vander Stoep defeated Fort Worth Christian, 6-0, 6-2
Sophomore Casey Vander Stoep lost to freshman Louis Vargas (LCS), 5-7, 2-6 

Girls’ Doubles 

Placing Fourth:
Sophomores Kara Vogelzang and Lizzy Robinson lost to Midland Christian, 2-6, 1-6
Sophomores Kara Vogelzang and Lizzy Robinson lost to Lubbock Trinity, 2-6, 6-3, (4-10) 

Girls’ Singles 

Placing Third:
Freshman Haylee Smith lost to Lubbock Trinity, 1-6, 3-6
Freshman Haylee Smith defeated Midland Christian, 6-4, 6-2 

Head Tennis Coach Chase Hardin said, “The next day the varsity team traveled to Nolan Catholic to get a glimpse of next year’s competition and defeated Nolan Catholic 6 matches to 4.”
