Liberty’s bands are preparing for an exciting, busy week, and they continue to perform until the end of May.

“While most other bands are slowing down and getting ready for the summer, we are still going full speed and will end this year with a bang!” said Band Director Scott Himel. “We are proud of them all, from fifth grade to 12th grade.”

Middle School Band News:
All Liberty families are invited to hear the Middle School band’s spring concert tomorrow night, April 20, at 7 p.m.  The band will travel Friday to their first full band competition at the Irving Performing Arts Center for the Heritage Music Festival. They will compete against bands from across the state and will perform at Six Flags over Texas Friday night.

Lower School Band News:
Families are also invited to the Lower School beginner band’s spring concert this Thursday, April 22, at 7 p.m.

Upper School Band News:
The Upper School band will perform at Liberty’s 16th annual Artist Garden on Saturday night, May 1.

They will also play in all five performances of the musical theatre production of “The Wiz” at Liberty on Friday, May 14; Saturday, May 15; Sunday, May 16; Saturday, May 22; and Sunday, May 23.

Liberty is sending a number of band students to the Texas Private School Music Educators Association’s all-state competition on Saturday, May 29.

The Upper School band just finished competing at TAPPS State and took second place.

“The students did a fantastic job, as their first performance was at 8 a.m. and their last performance was at 5 p.m.,” said Himel. “Join me in congratulating the Upper School band students.”

He said these events were “100 percent student-led and take a tremendous amount of work and discipline over several months to achieve state.”

The winners of the TAPPS state contest is below. A rating of 1 is superior, and 2 is excellent.
