The Liberty Christian Builder’s Club began a new tradition this year by passing the gavel from the past president to the president-elect. In a ceremony held
on Wednesday April 21, Builder’s Club outgoing president, eighth grader Michael King, passed the gavel to the president-elect, seventh grader Paige Jeary, who will serve as president in the upcoming 2010-2011 school year. Parents and grandparents attended the ceremony, which included the presentation of an engraved gavel to King, as well as speeches by King and Jeary.
Builder’s Club serves as one of the largest organizations at Liberty, with 87 members in the sixth through eighth grades. The Denton Breakfast Kiwanis Club sponsors the Liberty Christian Builder’s Club.
Middle School Principal Dr. Martin Noto serves as the Kiwanis Club representative for the Liberty Builder’s Club, and noted, “Our Builder’s Club kids are learning to love and serve their neighbors in a meaningful, Christ-inspired way.” Builder’s Club members have served the community throughout the school year, volunteering at numerous events including the Turkey Roll, Kiwanis Club Pancake Supper, wrapping Christmas presents, and raising money to buy school supplies for low-income families.
Sharon Ramsey serves as the Builders Club senior faculty sponsor, and she works alongside Melanie Pinkston, the sixth grade sponsor; Ken Marko, the seventh grade sponsor; and Claire Batey, the eighth grade sponsor.
Ramsey said, “Often service clubs are advertised to students as ‘great to put on your college applications,’ and it is true that colleges look at service, but my dream is that our students would choose to serve because it’s an example Christ set for us.”
Ramsey praised the club’s members noting, “Builder’s Club is just an organized vehicle for doing service for the Lord.
“Some of our students have really picked up on this and are great examples of future leaders at Liberty and beyond!”
