Senior, Ty Dunlap

Liberty Christian School is proud to announce senior Ty Dunlap as a Semifinalist in the annual National Merit Scholarship Program.

“Ty Dunlap is a great example of the character, integrity, and academic excellence so prominent at Liberty,” said Liberty President Rodney Haire. “Congratulations Ty!”

Upper School Principal Ed Cook said, “We are all very proud of Ty. He definitely deserves this honor, especially in light of his course load and all of his activities.”

Cook said that Liberty provides higher level classes to go along with Dunlap’s aptitude, in addition to many of the teachers at Liberty who have tenure and experience in teaching students of this level.

Dunlap said, “I think Liberty has really helped me mature in my academic performance.”

Dunlap is also a top golfer and was chosen to NCAA’s No. 1 team, Texas A&M, where he will attend college and be a part of the business honor program.

Dunlap plans on chasing his dream at A&M, which is to play on the PGA tour.

Liberty golf coach Larry Frank said, “Ty is one of the greatest golfers to play at Liberty. In the eight state championships and 40 plus all-state golfers, Ty has broken all of the low round records for single rounds and two day rounds held by golfers before him.”

Frank went on to say that Dunlap is the “real deal and a fine young man.” He said, “Ty is held with great respect by the younger golfers, not just for golf, but for his actions as a student and a person.

“My hope is that he will always walk with the Lord first and be guided by His hand,” he said.

Dunlap said, “I am very confident that my degree from the honors program at Texas A&M will allow me to get a good start in the business world if my golf doesn’t pay off. If golf doesn’t work out, I would love to pursue a career in business with ambitions to become a chairman for a private equity company.”

In the National Merit Scholarship program, students like Dunlap qualified as a Semifinalist based on their performance on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT).

Dunlap, as a Semifinalist, must fulfill several requirements to advance to the Finalist level of the competition. About 90 percent of the Semifinalists are expected to attain Finalist standing, and approximately half of the Finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the Merit Scholar title.

Liberty Christian wishes Ty Dunlap all the best and is excited about his promising future. The school will be cheering for him every step of the way.
