Connecting Chemistry to the Real World
By Kathy Hall, Chemistry Teacher
Students in Mrs. Stricklen’s and my chemistry classes recently had the opportunity to “adopt” their own special element and learn about its
origin, properties, and uses.
Students presented what they learned to their classmates orally and in the form of a unique poster, exhibiting colored pictures and three-dimensional objects representing the uses of their element in everyday life.
The finished products were then displayed on the walls of their classrooms, forming a unique periodic table, beautifully illustrating how chemistry is affecting their lives on a daily basis.
