Girls Basketball Shows Strong Start to Season

The Lady Warriors’ record heading into district play is 16-2. They were the only undefeated team in the Lone Star Classic, defeating Fort Worth Christian 60-30, Thesa 76-68, and Houston St. Agnes 65-22.
The Lady Warriors defeated Krum 76-39 in their first home game, and then won the Colleyville Heritage Classic on Nov. 9-11. They defeated Coppell 78-33, state-ranked Colleyville Heritage 58-54, then defeated state-ranked Mansfield Timberview in the championship 56-50. Unfortunately, in the championship game, senior Lauren Lassiter was lost for the season with an ACL injury. Junior Nicole Kornet was named the tournament MVP and senior Summer Fife was named all-tournament.
The weekend of Nov. 18-20, the Lady Warriors played in the Northwest Tournament. The Lady Warriors defeated OD Wyatt 79-41 in the first round, and then defeated 2A, No. 1 ranked Brock 46-44. In the semifinals, the Lady Warriors defeated Grapevine 55-26, and then defeated 4A, fifth ranked Aledo in the championship 54-43. Kornet, Fife, and junior Nia Jackson were named to the all-tournament team.
The Lady Warriors traveled to 5A Richardson before Thanksgiving and won 54-44. On Nov. 30, the Lady Warriors defeated Northwest 71-29 at Liberty, but lost the services of Jackson to an ankle injury.
On Dec 2-4, the Lady Warriors entered the prestigious Cowtown Classic in Fort Worth. In the first game, the Lady Warriors defeated Tyler Lee 52-36, and then lost a heartbreaker to 4A ranked Mansfield Summitt 55-53 for their first loss of the season. In the next game, the Lady Warriors defeated Granbury 46-39, denying coach Leta Andrews of Granbury the opportunity at that time to become the winningest coach in high school basketball history. In the last day of the tournament, state 5A ranked Lewisville defeated the Lady Warriors 56-40 for their second loss of the season. Kornet was named to the all-tournament team.
On Dec. 10 at Liberty, the Lady Warriors defeated Denton Ryan 59-40.
The Lady Warriors open district play today, Dec. 17, and will play in the Whataburger Tournament December 27-29 at Saginaw High School. Their first home district game will be Tuesday, Jan. 4, against Bishop.
The Lady Warriors can attribute their success to a relentless work ethic, solid team unity, and their love for one another.
