Major League Baseball Player to Speak at Warrior Media Day Thursday
The Liberty Christian Warriors begin their 2011 baseball season in their new TAPPS 5A division by celebrating Media Day on Thursday, Jan. 27 at 2:30 p.m. at Integrity Park in Argyle.
Major League Baseball player Vernon Wells will be in attendance and will speak to the players, families, guests, and members of the media who are present.
The afternoon is dedicated to members of the media, providing them an opportunity to ask questions and take pictures of the team that they will use in reporting the upcoming season.
“It will be a fun day at the ballpark,” said Warrior baseball head coach Johnny Isom. “Admission is free, and all are welcome.”
Wells played center field for the Toronto Blue Jays from 2002 to 2010. He has played on three All-Star teams in his career, and has been awarded three Gold Glove Awards, and one Silvery Slugger Award. This year Wells takes his talents to Los Angeles to play for the Angels.
In 2007, Wells and his wife, Charlene, began the Perfect 10 Foundation that provides support to expectant women and single mothers in need across North Texas.
In December 2010, the Perfect 10 Foundation opened the Redemption House in Denton, a home on 2.2 acres that will house six families and will be a safe haven where expecting, single mothers can receive help.
In November 2010, Wells was inducted into the Baseball Humanitarians Hall of Fame.
His story will be very uplifting and motivating for Liberty’s team and guests during Media Day.
After introductions of the team and Vernon’s speech, the team will have their individual, group, and position photos taken.
