DALLAS — Liberty Christian completed a perfect run in district play with a 58-35 victory against Dallas Ursuline on Tuesday.

Nia Jackson led the Lady Warriors (34-2, 14-0) with 30 points. Liberty Christian will host either Houston Christian or Beaumont Kelly on Saturday at 2 p.m. in its TAPPS playoff opener.

Head coach Ken Burroughs, who is in his fifth year of coaching girls basketball at Liberty, led Liberty to its first state championships in 2007 and 2008 and runner-up in 2009 and 2010.

“It would be great to come back and win state this year,” said Burroughs. “All I ever ask of the girls is that they give their best effort. The rest will take care of itself.

“Winning is not everything, but the will to win is.”

Burroughs said the girls have overcome injuries and illness this season.

“These girls have risen to the occasion,” he said. “They refuse to lose.

“It takes a lot to win district, but to go undefeated is really tough.

“I am so proud of these girls.”

If the girls win Saturday, they will be in the regionals at home the following Saturday on Feb. 26, and the state tournament will be held the first weekend of March at Mansfield ISD.
