In its second tournament of the season, Liberty Christian won the Killeen Shoemaker Tournament held last weekend.

Head coach Johnny Isom said, “We have played in this tournament five years in a row, and this year was the first time for us to win the entire thing.”

Liberty players named all-tournament were junior Denton Martin and seniors Neal Bohannon, Corey Dodd, and Trevor Simms.

On March 5 in the championship game, the Warriors defeated Waco University 6-4.

“I was very proud of the way the boys competed all weekend,” Isom said.

The next tournament in which the team will play will be in Brownwood.

In other baseball news, the Warriors won their second TAPPS 5A district game on Monday, March 7, this one against the Bishop Lynch Friars, 5-0.

Isom said, “Offensively the Warriors were lead by senior infielder Neal Bohannon who hit a bases loaded, 2-out, 2-strike, base clearing double. That would be all the run support senior, right-handed pitcher, Chad Nack would need. Nack was the story of the night. Nack threw all seven innings, striking out 13 Friar batters and not allowing any Friar hits.

“Nack was unbelievable tonight. In the four years I have seen him pitch, this is the best I have seen him throw. He threw very hard while spotting his fastball, and he had great command of his off-speed pitches. I didn’t even realize that it was a no-hitter, but I did know that he was in full command from pitch one.

“It was fun to watch, and I was glad he was on our side.”
