Girls Golf Team Advances to State, Ty Dunlap to go as Individual
The Liberty Christian girls golf team will compete at the TAPPS 5A state tournament in Temple on April 18-19 after finishing second in district and third in regionals at the TAPPS 1-5A-North Regional tournament.
The girls were led by Maria Manrique and Kelsie Finch, who both made all-district. Manrique shot an 82-79 and Finch shot 88-90.
The boys team finished sixth, missing out on the state tournament.
But Ty Dunlap finished fourth and will advance to state as an individual medalist after shooting a two-day total of 73-71.
It marks the 14th straight year a Liberty golf team has advanced to the state tournament.

News from Coach Larry Frank
This year has been one of blessings for the golfers. First, I have had the pleasure of having an assistant for the first time, coach Brock Burroughs. He has stepped in and been a great help to the golf program. We have had more young men move their relationship with the Lord up a notch or two, which is a great blessing to the team and our students, and of course to Coach Burroughs and me.
Secondly, we have had 32 young men and 6 young women participate in the 2010–2011 golf program. We have 11 players who through their stroke average are on varsity, and they include Ty Dunlap, Javier Manrique, Jared Sutter, Luke Kornet, Nathan Dealy, Connor Hutcherson, Andy Haws, Trevor Armstrong, Jesse Reynolds, Mason Shanahan, and Russell Jenkins. The three seniors from this group are Dunlap, Sutter, and Reynolds. The two ninth graders who made varsity are J. Manrique and Shanahan. Also, we have had two ninth grade boys teams and two junior varsity boys teams.
The girls varsity includes Maria Manrique, Kelsie Finch, Brandi Trost, Courtney Copeland, Nicole Kornet, and Ivy Combs. There are four seniors on the girls varsity, Maria Manrique, Brandi Trost, Courtney Copeland, and Ivy Combs.
Both our boys and girls teams have had several players who have won tournaments during our fall and spring tournaments. Ty Dunlap and Maria Manrique have won five times and second twice. Javier Manrique has won three times and been second twice.
Our team is always blessed with standing on the team verse found in Proverbs 27:17–19, “Iron sharpens iron; so a man sharpens the countenance of his friend. Whosoever tends the fig tree shall eat the fruit; so he who honors his Master shall be honored. As in water face answered to face, so the heart of man to man.”
Please pray for all of the golfers that the love of the Lord shall reign in their lives, and that they would be granted favor and wisdom from Jesus Christ by His Spirit.
