Baseball Splits Games Last Week – Wins District
Despite going 1-1 for the week of district play and losing their first district game, the Warriors secured a district championship with a win over Bishop Dunne and TCA beating John Paul II.
On Tuesday, April 12, the Warrior bats get hot early, and the Warrior offense scored 10 runs in the first two innings. The win over Dunne would be the 10th straight district win.
In the game, eight different Warriors each collected one hit. Neal Bohannon and Bryce Garoutte doubled, Matt Farris tripled, and Corey Dodd hit a home run.
Head coach Johnny Isom said, “It was a total team effort today. The offense was impressive, but our defense was even better. We challenge these kids to take hits away defensively, and we did that today.”
Chad Nack earned the win and pitched two innings, and Eric Heidelman earned a save and pitched three innings.
“Chad and Eric were in complete control from the first pitch,” said Isom. “Eight strikeouts versus zero walks is what you like to see out of these two senior pitchers.”
In their game against John Paul II on April 15, the Warriors lost a heartbreaker in 12 innings to district foe John Paul II by the score of 6-5.
“You got to tip your hat to the Cardinals,” Isom said. “They outlasted us today. Whoever lost that game was going to be heartbroken and that is where we are right now. I think these guys will bounce back though. They are winners.”
Neal Bohannon and Foster Ford went six for 12 between the two of them. The Warrior offense out hit John Paul II by 13 hits to eight hits.
“Unfortunately for us, the run total is the only statistic that counts,” Isom said. “We had a bunch of hits on the day, but lacked the big hit in the later innings.
“The entire staff kept us in the game, but Zach Wilson is the standout for today,” said Isom. “Zach was just great today. He made pitches when he had to and really gave us a chance to take the lead in the game.”
The Warriors play Trinity Christian Addison at home tonight, April 18, at 7 p.m. and on Thursday, April 21, versus Fort Worth All-Saints at home at 6 p.m.
Isom noted, “To go out and win your district in the first year after the move to the largest classification in TAPPS and to do it all despite having one of the smallest enrollments says a lot about the talent we have on this team. I am very proud of the boys and what they have accomplished thus far.”
