Senior Ty Dunlap broke a school record and TAPPS state tournament record for lowest two-round score with a 70-68—138 at the TAPPS 5A state tournament on April 19 at Wildflower Country Club in Temple, Texas.

Dunlap, who signed with Texas A&M, won by six strokes after tying for the state title last year. He is Liberty’s ninth individual state champion in the past 14 years.

“I take my hat off to Ty Dunlap,” said head golf coach Larry Frank. “Ty birdied six of the last 10 holes to win the state medalist championship.

“I have seen many great rounds of golf by Liberty players in the last 14 trips to the state tournament, but I must say Ty’s round will go down as a record for Liberty golfers to shoot at in the future.”

On the girls side, Liberty finished fourth in the team standings, led by a 10th-place finish from Maria Manrique (84-80—164).

“I am so proud of the girls fourth place finish at state,” Frank said. “The last time a Liberty girls team made it to state was back in 2004.

“It was a pleasure for coach Brock Burroughs and me to be able to coach these girls.”

Also competing for the Lady Warriors were Nicole Kornet (87-98—185), Kelsie Finch (96-92—188), Brandi Trost (97-99—196) and Courtney Copeland (100-105—205).
