Liberty Christian will honor the National Day of Prayer on Thursday, May 5. The motto this year is “A Mighty Fortress is our God” (Psalm 91:2).

Key Club students will lead fellow students in prayer over the PA system during the second, fourth, and sixth periods of the day. Students will pray for the United States government, soldiers, churches, schools, and families.

President Harry S. Truman declared a National Day of Prayer in 1952, and in 1988, President Ronald Reagan signed into law the designation of the first Thursday in May as the annual observance for the National Day of Prayer.

Thomas Jefferson said in 1808 that “Fasting and prayer are religious exercises, and every society has a right to determine for itself the time for these exercises, and the objects proper for them, according to their own particular tenets; and right can never be safer than in their hands, where the Constitutions has deposited it.”

The National Day of Prayer enables citizens to recall and teach the way in which America’s founding fathers sought the wisdom of God when faced with critical decisions.

The National Day of Prayer belongs to all Americans. It is a day that transcends differences, bringing together citizens from all backgrounds.

Liberty is proud to be a part of the National Day of Prayer and recognize this day as one with great significance for America.
