Warrior Baseball Wins Bi-District Game
Liberty defeated San Antonio Central Catholic Buttons 10-0 on Saturday, April 30, in the opening round of playoffs to earn a bi-district championship and advance to the regional round of the TAPPS 5A playoffs.
“Timely hitting early on and a couple big blasts late proved to be the difference in the game,” said head coach Johnny Isom.
The Warrior offense pounded out 13 hits versus the Buttons pitching. Leading the way was senior outfielder Corey Dodd, who collected three hits on the day and drove in five Warrior runners.
“Corey is really locked in right now. It’s almost getting to the point where we’re not thinking if he is going to hit a home run but when. He is a beast in the middle of our lineup, and he is heating up right when we need him to.”
Senior pitcher Chad Nack earned the win while tossing a complete game shutout.
“Chad had a look today, and we could tell he meant business. I wasn’t 100 percent sure if we would win the ball game, but I was very confident that he would throw well. He wants to have the ball right now, and I love that!”
The Warriors play at home against John Paul II for the regional title next Monday, May 9, at 7 p.m.
Isom said, “It’s the time of year where we are not concerned about how we win. We just want to win and advance, and we were able to do that Saturday. The road gets tougher with John Paul. They beat us once and will give us all we want in this next game. It is going to be a good matchup.”
