Band Wins “Best in Class” in National Competition
The Liberty Christian band performed Friday at the Directors Choice Music Festival and Competition in San Antonio and won “Best in Class,” competing against 35 schools from across the nation.
The festival is open to all public and private high school bands and orchestras, and Liberty Christian received a “1” superior rating from all three judges.
The judges further recognized the efforts of three Liberty students by awarding them the title of “Top Soloist” of the day’s events. Junior Lizzy Robinson, freshman Kyle Lewis, and sophomore Erin Achenbach were each recognized for their jazz solos.
Band director Scott Himel said of the event, “This festival was an amazing opportunity for our band. Every band strives to achieve all superior scores from a panel of judges. To achieve that goal is momentous enough. To be recognized as ‘best in class’ for the entire event is a rare honor.
“I am so proud of our students. At this event we applied all of the critiques and lessons learned from past events. It came down to the students practicing with discipline and performing with character that shined through their music.”
