On Columbus Day, a school holiday, more than 200 Liberty Christian Upper School students, which is more than half of its 9th through 12th graders, volunteered and served in their communities.

“Monday was an incredible day of ministry!” said Chris Searcy, Upper School youth pastor.

One group of students visited with the homeless, prepared and served them a meal, and led a worship service with music, testimonies, and a message.

Other students visited three nursing homes and played games, shared testimonies, and visited with the residents.

Another group of students picked food from a garden to feed the homeless and worked at a local thrift store that funds a local pregnancy center that offers free childbirth and biblical counseling.

Searcy said, “We heard nothing but positive remarks about the way our kids served.”

A few of these remarks included:

• “Your students were a fabulous bunch and very helpful the whole time!”

• “Amazing to see kids not only talk to these homeless men and women, but actually open their Bibles and share with them. You have great kids!”

• “Your students worked extremely hard and never complained … we are extremely grateful … your kids were a huge blessing to us.”

Searcy is planning another missions day in the spring.

He added, “In addition to these incredible missions days, we also want to impress upon our students the importance of seeing every day as an opportunity to serve as Christ modeled for us.”
