Boys Soccer Takes Fourth in Houston Tourney
Boys soccer traveled to Houston Christian High School for its third annual Soccer Fest, held Friday, Nov. 11 and Saturday, Nov. 12.
On Friday, the boys played Bay Area Christian and won 5-0. Jared Beiermann scored two goals, and Matt Jeffery, Eduardo Perez, and Chris Svatik each had one apiece. Assists came from Leon Ahn, Eduardo Perez, and Jared Beiermann.
Assistant coach Chase Hardin said, “After a full day, our defense was like a wall, and offense was putting shots on frame.”
The second day of soccer kicked off at noon on Saturday against The Village School from Houston. The boys started the game on their heels and went down 0-1 in the first 15 minutes of the game.
“At halftime, Coach Olivieri had a nice talk with the guys telling them to be first to every ball,” said Hardin.
The Warriors started the second half, and in about 10 minutes, they scored a goal and tied the game 1-1 with a Jason Jenkins free kick. The Village School put in another goal to go up 2-1 with six minutes left in the game. The game ended with The Village School on top 3-1.
“The guys played hard the second half with some amazing, diving saves by Corbin McBride,” said Hardin.
The Warriors played for third or fourth place in the second game of the day against Houston Christian.
“We fell 0-2 with all goals coming from the first half of play,” Hardin said. “The Warriors dominated most of the game but could not find the back of the net.
“Overall, it was good practice for us before we start district play. It also gave the coaches a good look at what young talent we have.”
During each game in the tournament, opposing coaches picked three players on each team who were deserving of the All-Tournament Team, and this year Warriors Jason Jenkins, Jared Beiermann, and Grant Gillespie were chosen.
The Warrior boys and girls soccer teams will host their fourth annual Pre-Thanksgiving Tournament on Nov. 17–19. District play begins when students come back from Thanksgiving.
“Please come out and support your Warrior soccer teams,” Hardin said.
