On Tuesday, Nov. 29, the boys soccer team opened district play against Nolan Catholic. The boys went out very uneasy in the beginning, and within two minutes, Nolan scored to go up 1-0. During the second half, the boys played better but still could not find the back of the net.

“We allowed two breakaways that led to one-on-ones with goalkeeper Corbin McBride, and Nolan scored on both attempts,” said Chase Hardin, assistant coach.

“The final score against Nolan was 3-0, however, the score did not reflect how the boys played,” he said. “After the Nolan game, we had one practice working on communication and keeping our shape in the game.”

The next day the Warriors traveled to Bishop Lynch for a tough game. The boys went out possessing about 80 percent of the game, but with Bishop Lynch’s strong defense, could not put the ball in the net. The final score was 0-0.

“We held Bishop scoreless the entire game with outstanding performances by the Warrior defense of Jason Jenkins, Austin Holifield, Josh Levinson, and Josh Porter,” Hardin said. “Our team’s performance was a huge improvement over the Nolan game.”

Hardin said that he and Coach Olivieri are very excited about the year.

“In the Bishop game, we played really hard, and in the end came out with a tie against a team that walked all over us the year before.

“We have come a long way and look forward to this year and what it will bring. We have a special group of guys this year, and we are going all the way, taking it one game at a time and playing not only for Liberty but for the grace of our one and only Jesus Christ.”
