In only her second year competing in debate, Liberty Christian’s Breann Smith won the Richardson Berkner High School Tournament held on Dec. 12–13. The sophomore went 7-1 in her debate rounds and took second place Speaker Award.

Senior Nick Valenzuela won ninth place Speaker Award in this his first full varsity meet. Previously, he had debated in Novice prior to the tournament. Senior Jacob Elliott won 10th place Speaker Award in Varsity, and freshman Taylor Hornsby won Top Speaker Award in the Novice division.

“I am very proud of our students’ efforts; their hard work is starting to pay off,” said Ken Robison, Debate Sponsor and Teacher. “It is great to see our students receive recognition from their peers in debate from other schools, and I look forward to seeing what they will accomplish at our upcoming spring semester meets.

“Our performance at this meet proved to ourselves and other schools that we are competitive debaters,” said Mr. Robison. “In the debate world, it put Liberty Christian ‘on the map.’”
