The name of the song is “You’re Our Glory,” (click this link to listen to You’re Our Glory [mp3]), and the lyrics are below:

There are moments in teaching when we, as teachers, have the blessing of experiencing a “Holy Spirit” moment with our children. Recently, my kindergarten class had such an encounter. As the movement of the Holy Spirit flowed through these five- and six-year-old children, a song filled with praise to God was created.

This story began while I was teaching the children a simple praise and worship song one afternoon, when one child piped up in her clear little voice and said, “Mrs. McCallum, why don’t we make up our OWN song to God?” I was momentarily taken aback, but the other children were not. They began to voice approval of the idea, clearly excited about the possibility. The words which were so quickly forming on my tongue, however, threatened to squelch what the Holy Spirit was about to do. As I opened my mouth to “redirect” the class, I felt the Lord prodding me to agree to this request.

The children raised their hands, and one by one, they began giving me phrases that expressed their love for the Lord. I wrote them on the board as fast as I could—thoughts and words came quickly and creatively from these precious kids. When a natural end came to this process, another little one raised her hand and asked, “So can we sing the song now?” This question made me smile, as I was already wondering how on earth I would be able to compile all of these precious phrases into a song that seemed to flow and make sense. In that moment, I realized that I would not be able to do it, but God would.

The day that I sat down to put the song together, I was amazed at how easily the phrases formed full thoughts, how the thoughts formed verses, and how the verses formed a song. Yet again, I underestimated what GOD could do. I put the song to a tune, and this sweet kindergarten class now has a song which truly shows the heart of worship — the hearts of 16 wonderful kindergarten children.

The kids love singing the song. They have made up motions to it, and each time they sing it, you can see the pride in their smiles. When they close their eyes to sing the words in the song, “We praise you; we love you Lord,” I can see the love in their hearts. I have thanked God on several occasions that He saved me from my own agenda that day so that He could bless my class and me with His agenda.

The name of the song is “You’re Our Glory,” (click this link to listen to You’re Our Glory [mp3]), and the lyrics are below:

Verse One:

You made the sun, so it could be day.
There’s darkness in the night, but that is OK.
You made our world. You made our land.
We bow down to You. You’re our glory. You’re grand.

Chorus:

We praise You. We love You, Lord.
We praise You. We love You, Lord.

Verse Two:

You made us perfect in every way.
You made us in Your image, what more can we say?
We thank You for Jesus, the baby in the hay.
We thank You that all of our family can pray.

Chorus.

Bridge:

We will not cheat. We will not lie.
We want to obey our God on high. (sing twice)

Chorus.

Story by Christy McCallum, Liberty Kindergarten teacher

Hearts were touched, encouraging words were spoken, and God was glorified.

“As a parent, it was truly awesome to see these young hearts so devoted to doing what God wants them to do,” said teacher and parent Kristy Howell. “They were encouraging and praying, with arms wrapped around each other.”

Liberty Impact is a student-led mentoring and ministry program designed for Middle School students. A select group of juniors and seniors who have hearts that want to serve God and others meet weekly with the small group of Middle School students they have been given to encourage and pray with them.

Juniors are assigned to a group of seventh graders, and the juniors serve as mentors to their group of seventh graders for two years, as the leaders become seniors and their Middle School group becomes eighth graders. These juniors and seniors enjoy hanging out and loving on their Middle School students.

Howell went on to say about Impact night, “God’s Spirit was present, like a snippet of heaven.

“The ‘Spirit of Liberty’ and ministries like IMPACT are a beacon of hope in this fallen world.”
